3,886 review

The International Esports Federation (IESF) has officially confirmed that Indonesia will host the World Esports Championship 2026, which will be held from December 15 to 20.

The eighteenth edition of one of the largest representative esports events in the world will once again gather national selections and the best players from a large number of countries.

Five games and seven competitions

IESF confirmed five official titles, but a total of seven competition categories:

  • Counter-Strike 2 Open
  • Counter-Strike 2 Women
  • Dota 2
  • PUBG Mobile
  • eFootball
  • Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Open
  • Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women

In addition to the main program, additional invitational competitions have been announced, details of which will be announced later.

Who will play at WEC26?

For several disciplines, the participants have already been practically determined through earlier qualification cycles.

National teams in CS2 Open, CS2 Women, Dota 2 and PUBG Mobile come from the WEC25 qualifiers, while for eFootball use qualifications from the WEC24 cycle.

Code MLBB Open and MLBB Women competition calls will be determined based on the official IESF Ranking System.

Federation status plays an important role

Before the start of the championship, the IESF will check the eligibility status of all national federations.

Federations that have the status Good Standing they are entitled to support for air transport and accommodation. Members who are not in Good Standing status can participate, but without this support, while suspended federations will not have the right to perform.

The deadline for correcting eligibility status for WEC26 is September 30, 2026.

Indonesia hosts the World Esports again

Indonesia thus returns to the big IESF scene after Bali hosted the World Esports Championship in 2022.

For now, IESF has not announced the complete schedule, slot distribution, exact location of the event, or the complete program of events. That information should be known in the coming weeks.

One thing is certain – from December 15 to 20, 2026, the focus of representative esports will be directed towards Indonesia.
