A global educational program with Minecraft

What is Farmcraft?
Farmcraft is a virtual challenge that uses the popular game Minecraft. Through this program, participants learn to evaluate various factors in agriculture and discover the logic behind the trade-offs between ecological sustainability, economic prosperity and food security. The program is the result of cooperation between NASEF (Network of Academic and Scholastic Esports Federations) and the US Department of State.

NASEF Farmcraft
NASEF Farmcraft is a global educational project aimed at ages 8 to 18 that uses Minecraft to better understand global agricultural challenges and how farmers provide food, clothing and shelter. It can be integrated into school programs or extracurricular activities.

Includes:

  • Science-based Minecraft challenges
  • Custom Farmcraft world with built-in lessons
  • Informative live streams with experts from agriculture and technology
  • Live online events and materials for educators

The program is designed to enable innovative, project-based learning, while educators receive all the necessary support for integrating challenges into existing curricula.

This year's challenge: "Land Demand"

Within the framework of the challenge "Land Demand”, participants will explore non-food uses for crops and try to balance them with food needs. The main task is to reach certain goals in the production of food, clothing and shelter for the inhabitants in a given time.

Key items:

  • Free participation i provided by Minecraft for registered teams
  • Internet connection and access to a computer, tablet or smartphone is required
  • Basic knowledge of the English language is necessary (full fluency is not required)
  • The recommended age is high school students, but there are no geographic restrictions

How does Farmcraft 2025 work??

Every registered child or student gets access to a free license for minecraft education, together with the instructions sent to the team leader's email (info@nasef.org). At the beginning of March, a customized Farmcraft map will also be available, with detailed instructions on how to run it inside minecraft education platforms. Teams can first try the preseason challenges in standard Minecraft, and then participate in regular challenges in the special Farmcraft mode. After the end of the challenge, the participants share their experience through a blog or a video clip on the official website.

Key stages

  • Registration: from December 16, 2024 to April 4, 2025.
  • Preseason: from February 3 to March 7, 2025.
  • Regular Season: from March 10 to April 18, 2025 (Farmcraft map active)
  • Deadline for registration: April 4, 2025
  • The deadline for submitting the challenge: April 18, 2025

During the season, there will be live streams with announcements and previews of the challenges, including all important dates such as the start of the season (February 5), the launch of the "Land Demand" map (March 12) and the award ceremony (April 23). .
