This year's Dota 2 World Championship format was ruthless. It is a GSL format of 4 groups with 4 teams each, in which the first two advance and the last two are eliminated from the tournament. It's the same thing in the playoffs, where the game is played on a one-shot basis. There is no room for mistakes. The Greeks took it seriously and started the tournament quite strongly.
In the group stage, the Greeks defeated the national team of Argentina and South Africa, while they played against the Krygistan team 2-1 in favor of the Krygistan. This put them second in their Group D, just behind unbeaten Krygistan.
The national teams of the Philippines, Mongolia and Myanmar are also undefeated in their groups and, along with the second-placed national teams of Sweden, Turkey and Belarus, secured passage to the playoff phase.
The first match of the playoffs and also the quarterfinals was between the teams of the Philippines and Greece. In this match, the Greeks opened the game with keri Bristleback and off-line Enigma, which easily broke the Filipinos. In the second game, they had no answer to the pick of Krobelus, who accelerated the pace of the game with the help of the currently most effective hero Manki King, and they were in a situation where they were only 1 game away from the end of the tournament. In the last game, however, the Greeks pulled Lajkan out of their hat and outsmarted the opponent by constantly pushing the side lanes. It is interesting that all 3 games allowed the Filipinos to play their best hero - Invoker.
Having secured their passage to the semi-finals, the Greeks took a breather and set about preparing strategies for the coming teams.
Mongolia convincingly destroyed the Belarus national team in the first game in just 30 minutes, while the second, although it lasted longer, was equally dominant. They had the better pick in both games and controlled the game without any problems. They are the next opponents of the Greeks.
At the same time, the Swedes surprised with a quick victory over the Krygistan national team 2-0. They had far better vision in both games than their opponents. Supporters did the work, but also the selection of heroes. In the first game they had Nyx Assassin who gave them a huge amount of information around the map while in the second game it was Balanar.
The Turkish national team, which eliminated our boys in the qualifiers, defeated the Myanmar national team with a score of 2-1. They lost the first game against the notorious Wisp, and in the next two they came to their senses and took control of the draft and the game. Fenix was their key hero.

Now we are in the semi-finals of the tournament and the first match is played by the Greeks against the Mongolians for direct passage to the grand final. The Mongolians started off strong by winning the first game. They had a strong combination of Shadow Demon and Luna while they sent Duma and support Terrorblade to the offline. An unexpectedly useful support hero against Focus's Morphling. The Greeks are cornered and have to show their teeth. In the second game, jellyfish led them to victory, and in the third, they again showed Skylark's undisputed enigma. The Greeks are by far the most played team in this tournament. They have been playing together for many years and have an incredible synergy that unlocks more complex strategies.
The Turks, on the other hand, faltered. In the semi-finals, they met the Swedish national team against which the first game was the most even. After a full 50 minutes of play, Xcalibur's Storm prevailed in favor of the Scandinavian team. The second game was totally dominated by the Turkish team thanks to the strong lane phase and their aggressive and fast game. The deciding game lasted 44 minutes, which was not enough time for Fantom Lanser, the keri of the Turkish national team, to activate. Sweden goes on, goes directly to the final.
We still have to see the match between Turkey and Mongolia for the bronze medal before we go to the grand final. This match is the third longest BO3 match ever. The first game went in favor of Turkey after an incredible 69 minutes of play. When the game goes that far, the spade stops making sense, the items are completely irrelevant and the only thing that matters is who initiates the fight first. Total chaos ensues, in which the Turkish national team manages better. The second game lasted less than 63 minutes, in which the Mongolian national team managed to make a comeback, i.e. return to the game from a lost position, thanks to the ultimate spell of their hero Gondar, who gives them a huge amount of money for each kill. The decisive game between these teams lasted a full 75 minutes, after which the Turkish team showed that it is the master of chaos and won the Bronze. Their combination of Magnus plus Phantom Assassin turned out to be enough in the super late game. 2 divine rapiers were bought, one on each side. In the end, Rubick was the hero of the day with a stolen naga song that allowed him to capture 3 heroes in one place who were then inhabited by Magnus and killed by Phantom Assassin. By far the most interesting game in the tournament.
Now we go to the grand final where the Greeks played as if they had turned on the turbo mode. Dimitris "Thug" Plivouris dominated both games on his Akash. In the first he overcame Xcalibur's Lone Druid while in the second he farmed keels as creeps. A truly incredible performance by the Greek national team in the final. Sweden was slightly outpicked, but significantly outplayed. They simply did not have what it takes to face the best Dota 2 nation in the world - Greece.

The Greeks brought their country the gold, securing themselves $70,000, while the second-placed Swedes won $40,000. The Turkish national team was awarded $20,000 for third place, while their opponents, the Mongolians, won half as much.

The remaining 4 teams qualified for the playoff stage took home $5,000 each, while the last 8 teams were left empty-handed.
The MVP of the entire tournament is Kharis "SkyLark" Zafirou who excelled from start to finish.
