In August 2024, something happened that changed the industry forever.
A small studio from China, which few people had heard of before, released a game that sold an incredible amount in just three days. 10 million copies. Faster than Elden Ring, Hogwarts legacy, even if Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

That game was Black MythWukong.

From dream to legend

Inspired by the classic of Chinese literature, the novel The Road to the West, the game brought the story of the Monkey King to a spectacular, next-gen look. The studio behind it was game science, founded in 2014 by former Tencent developer Feng Ji.

While everyone doubted "AAA from China", a small team left safe jobs, worked for years without income and financed development out of sheer spite and passion.

Years of rejection and disbelief

August 20, 2024 – the day China entered the big stage

On that date Black MythWukong has launched globally, on PC and PS5.
What followed was not just success, it was cultural earthquake.

In the first 83 hours:

Nearly 9 out of 10 players on Steam on its first day were from China. The launch was like a national holiday. For the first time, China was not only the largest video game market – it was also the greatest creator.

Only in the first three days – $600 million income.
By November 2024 – more than $1.1 billion.
The impact went even further – tourism to the locations shown in the game increased by 300%.

A small studio, once a mocked outsider, became a giant overnight.
